Report: US Will Double Reward For Bin Laden

A U.S. news magazine says the Bush administration plans to double the bounty on al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden to $50 million.

Time magazine says the White House, acting on legislation passed by Congress in November, will announce the new reward offer by the end of February.

Earlier this month, the State Department began a new advertising campaign to make Afghans and Pakistanis more aware of the hunt for the al-Qaida leader and key associates, such as Taleban leader Mullah Omar.

Time says that ads placed in a popular Pakistani newspaper (Jang) elicit 12 responses per day on average. The magazine says the ads will be followed by commercials on radio and television stations in areas where Osama bin Laden may be hiding.
