Delegates from more than 50 countries have approved a Saudi Arabian proposal to establish an international counter-terrorism center to aid in the war against terror.
Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz proposed creating a center for the sharing of intelligence on terrorism during the four-day counter-terrorism conference in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which wrapped up Tuesday.
Details, such as the center's location and funding, have not been announced.
But some conference participants say the meeting's more important accomplishment is the message it sends that Saudi Arabia is serious about fighting terror at home and cooperating internationally.
Fifteen of the 19 hijackers on September 11, 2001, were Saudi nationals. The kingdom has also seen terrorist attacks on its own soil, and has been cracking down on Islamic militants.
