Kidnapped Daughter of Ex-Paraguayan President Found Dead

update

Paraguayan authorities say the daughter of former President Raul Cubas has been found dead, five months after she was kidnapped.

Officials say Cecilia Cubas' body was found Wednesday, buried at a house south of the capital, Asuncion. As police and firefighters worked to recover the remains, the former president and his wife rushed to the scene.

Ms. Cubas was kidnapped last September near the family home in Asuncion. She remained missing even though the family paid a ransom.

Authorities have detained several suspects in connection with the case and are looking into allegations that rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, were involved in the woman's abduction.

Raul Cubas served as Paraguayan president from August 1998 to March 1999.
