Brazilian Police Rescue Football Player's Kidnapped Mother

Brazilian police have rescued the kidnapped mother of football (soccer) player Rogerio Regis and arrested a woman in connection with the crime.

Police say Ines Fidelis Regis was rescued Thursday from a hideout near the coastal town of Caraguatatuba. Officials say they arrested a woman who was guarding her at the time of the rescue and seized a machine gun.

Ms. Regis had been held for three days after being taken from her home.

She is the fourth mother of a professional soccer player to be kidnapped in Brazil over the past five months. The mother of striker Luis Fabiano is still missing after being abducted earlier this month.
