Heat Open NBA Playoffs With Rout of Nets


The Miami Heat opened its National Basketball Association playoff run with a big victory over the visiting New Jersey Nets.

Miami guards Dwayne Wade and Damon Jones posted NBA playoff career-highs in scoring Sunday to lead the top-seeded Heat over the Nets, 116-98. Wade poured in 32 points while Jones scored 30 as the Heat had two players score 30 or more points in a playoff game for the first time in team history.

Vince Carter led New Jersey with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Game Two is Tuesday in Miami.

Other first round series open with the Chicago Bulls hosting the Washington Wizards, the Denver Nuggets visit the San Antonio Spurs, and the Phoenix Suns host the Memphis Grizzlies.
