U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is in Brazil, where she is delivering the main policy address of her five-day Latin American trip.

Speaking in Brasilia Wednesday, Secretary Rice hailed Brazil as a regional leader and global partner, saying the country and the United States can achieve much together.

During her speech, Ms. Rice called on Western hemispheric countries to press forward with the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

On Tuesday, Ms. Rice held talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Foreign Minister Celso Amorim. They discussed free trade issues and Brazil's role as head of the United Nations peacekeeping force in Haiti.

After her policy address, Secretary Rice will fly to Colombia for meetings with President Alvaro Uribe. She will also travel to Chile and El Salvador.
