Sergio leads after Wachovia Round 1

Spain's Sergio Garcia has a two-stroke lead over four other golfers after the first round of the Wachovia Championship tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Garcia fired a 6-under-par 66 in the first round and is two strokes ahead of Americans Patrick Sheehan, defending champion Joey Sindelar, and Kenny Perry and Swedish golfer Richard S. Johnson, all of whom shot 4-under-par 68s.

Several golfers, including Sweden's Jesper Parnevik, are tied for sixth, three strokes off the lead at 3-under-par 69. World number one golfer Tiger Woods of the United States is one of a large group of golfers who fired 2-under-par, 70s in the first round. World number two golfer Vijay Singh of Fiji is also 2-under-par for the tournament.

The tournament is being played on the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. The winner takes home $1,008,000 dollars.
