British Judge Orders Terror Suspect Extradited to Spain

A British judge has ordered a Moroccan man extradited to Spain to face trial on charges linked to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The judge, Timothy Workman, announced the decision in a London court Wednesday against Farid Hilali. A Spanish judge last year linked him to the Madrid al-Qaida cell that used Spain as a staging ground for the attacks.

Earlier in Spain, a court released on bail five suspected al-Qaida members on trial for belonging to a terrorist organization. The five are among 24 suspects who went on trial in April on similar charges.

Authorities have barred the five from leaving the country, and ordered them to turn in their passports and report daily to a judge.

Three of their co-defendants are accused of helping prepare the September 11 terrorist attacks.
