Australian Adam Gilchrist has been voted the most destructive and intimidating batsman in international one-day cricket.

The Wisden Cricketer magazine polled a group of leading bowlers and they voted Gilchrist as the man they most feared facing. In 209 one-day international matches, Gilchrist has scored almost 7,000 runs at a strike rate of 95, with 840 boundaries.

South African bowler Makhaya Ntini described the left-hander as, "just unbelievable," while Azhar Mahmood of Pakistan said, "I don't want to bowl to him."

After Gilchrist, Trinidad and Tobago native Brian Lara was second on the intimidating batsman list followed by Shahid Afridi of Pakistan, India's Virender Sehwag and Andrew Flintoff of England. Gilchrist said he considered the poll "an honor in a strange sort of way."
