A trio of players lead the Western Open golf tournament

Three American golfers came within one shot of the course record to share the first round lead at the Western open in Lemont, Illinois.

Ben Curtis, Jim Furyk and Todd Fischer all shot a bogey-free seven-under-par 64 Thursday on the Cog Hill course. The trio are two strokes ahead of former tournament champion Robert Allenby of Australia and Americans Harrison Frazar and Chad Campbell.

American Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh of Fiji, however, did not look like the top two players in the world. Woods, who could not get the ball close to the pin all afternoon, shot a two-over-par 73 and will have to play better if he is to make the mid-tournament cut. Singh carded a one-over-par 72.
