MLB: Tigers Crush Yankees

The Detroit Tigers shelled Randy Johnson Friday, crushing the Yankees 10-2 in a major league baseball matchup that saw the New York star pitcher give up seven runs in just five innings of work.

The host Tigers got a two-run home run from Magglio Ordonez in a successful return from injury that kept him out of the lineup since April 13. Detroit pitcher Jerry Bonderman notched his second complete game in his last three starts.

In another American League contest, the Toronto Blue Jays obliterated the World Series champion Red Sox, 15-2, in Boston, boosted by Reed Johnson's pinch-hit grand slam.

Other AL winners were the Indians, Angels, Athletics, Devil Rays and Rangers.

The Cleveland Indians handed the host Baltimore Orioles their eighth loss in nine games, 3-1. The Los Angeles Angels used Paul Byrd's two-hit pitching to defeat the Royals, 5-0, in Kansas City. The Oakland Athletics earned their eighth straight win, getting by the visiting Chicago White Sox, 6-2. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays used a four-run, eighth inning to come back and beat the Minnesota Twins, 7-4, in Minneapolis. The Texas Rangers beat the Mariners in Seattle, 6-2.

In the National League, Washington pitcher Livon Hernandez tied a franchise record by winning his 11th straight decision, leading the Nationals to a 4-3 victory over the Cubs in Chicago. Washington's fourth straight win allowed Hernandez to match Dennis Martinez, who played with the Montreal Expos before the franchise moved to the U.S. capital.

Other NL winners Friday were the Braves, Astros, Cardinals, Brewers, Mets, Giants and Dodgers.

Atlanta sluggers Andruw Jones and Kelly Johnson hit three-run homers to lead the Braves to a 9-1 thumping of the Phillies in Philadelphia. The Houston Astros got by the Reds, 10-7, in Cincinnati. The St. Louis Cardinals eased by the visiting Colorado Rockies, 6-0. The Milwaukee Brewers doubled the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-4. The New York Mets eked out a 7-6 win over the Florida Marlins in New York. The San Francisco Giants tripped up the Padres in San Diego, 3-2, and the Los Angeles Dodgers demolished the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-0.
