Hurricane Emily Downgraded But Remains Powerful


Weather forecasters say Hurricane Emily has weakened slightly, but warn the storm remains dangerous as it travels through the Caribbean.

The U.S.-based National Hurricane Center says Emily has been downgraded to a category three storm, but is still capable of major damage. Emily is packing winds of 205 kilometers per hour.

The storm is located approximately 745 kilometers southeast of Kingston and is moving northwest at about 32 kilometers per hour. A hurricane warning has been issued for all of Jamaica.

Parts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic are under a tropical storm warning.

Earlier, Emily pounded Grenada with heavy rains and high winds. At least one person was killed.
