An international arbitrator has reduced Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly's suspension for slow play from six one-day international matches to four.
The International Cricket Council had banned Ganguly for six matches for a persistently slow over rate during a series against Pakistan in April. Justice Albie Sachs upheld the ICC's decision to ban Ganguly, but he said that the punishment was too harsh.
The ICC said in a statement that Justice Sachs concluded that more weight should have been given to the fact that India's side was only five overs behind the required rate. Slow over rates violate the ICC code of conduct and the team captain is held responsible.
India travels to Sri Lanka next month for a triangular series that also features the West Indies. Ganguly will miss the one-day matches against Sri Lanka July 30 and the West Indies July 31 in Dambulla.
