Greek officials say autopsies carried out on some of the victims killed in Sunday's crash of a Cypriot airliner show they were alive though not necessarily conscious when the plane went down northeast of Athens.
The autopsies of least 25 of the victims show their vital organs were still working at the time of the crash that killed all 121 aboard. But officials say there is no sign anyone was conscious.
Investigators say they believe the plane crashed after decompression in the cabin caused sub-freezing temperatures and a sudden loss of oxygen on the aircraft.
Officials also say the plane's cockpit voice recorder was ejected from its outer casing and severely damaged. The flight data recorder was found intact. Both so-called "black boxes" are to be analyzed by experts in Paris.
In Washington, the State Department Monday expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
