The U.S. team and the International team are tied at 11-11 after the third day of the President's Cup match play golf competition outside Washington. The Americans won captured 5.5 points Saturday while the Internationals got 4.5 points from the 10 matches.
The Americans got three points from the morning's foursomes competition while the Internationals got two points and the two sides were tied at 8.5 each going into the afternoon's play.
In the afternoon four-ball matches, Retief Goosen of South Africa and Adam Scott of Australia won their match over Americans Justin Leonard and Scott Verplank (5-and-4). It was Goosen and Scott's third win of the week and Goosen says that Scott is a great partner.
"Adam really was carrying us in the first couple of days," he said. "I didn't play that well in the first couple of days. Today I started playing a little bit better. He did so well in the first two days. That's all I can say really."
Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco won for the third time in four matches beating Australians Peter Lonard and Nick O'Hern (6-and-5).
Aussie Mark Hensby and Tim Clark of South Africa defeated Kenny Perry and Stewart Cink (5-and-3).
World number one Tiger Woods of the United States and Partner Jim Furyk defeated number two Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby on the final hole (two up). Woods says that Furyk has been playing spectacular golf despite nursing a rib injury.
"Jim played beautifully and I was just trying to contribute somewhere," he said. "I did - I did a little bit starting out. I did not do much in the middle of the round, but Jim held us in there. And then all of a sudden I made a nice little bomb there at 16 which was nice."
Former Masters champion Fred Couples and Former PGA winner Davis Love the third halved their match with U.S. Open winner Michael Campbell and Angel Cabrera.
There are 12 singles matches Sunday, with a team needing 17.5 points to win the President's Cup.
