Lebanese Interior Minister Warns of Ongoing 'Terrorist Plot'

Lebanon's interior minister is warning of an ongoing "terrorist plot" to destabilize the country, and says his government has not made much progress in ending a string of deadly bombings in and near Beirut.

Interior Minister Hassan Sabeh's comments Monday come one day after television anchor and Syria critic May Chidiac was seriously wounded in a targeted bombing. Hospital officials say she lost her left arm and leg in the blast near Beirut and suffered severe burns.

Late Monday, students protested the bombing in vigils across the capital.

Mr. Sabeh did not say who he suspects in the attacks, which began in February when former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 20 others were killed in a Beirut bombing.

Since then, critics have pointed to neighboring Syria, which denies involvement. Earlier this month, a Lebanese court indicted four top pro-Syrian Lebanese generals in connection with the Hariri assassination.
