United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has condemned a recent incursion of Ugandan rebels into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In a statement Wednesday, Mr. Annan called for all governments in the region to use established processes to resolve the situation and boost efforts to end the activities of illegal armed groups.
He reiterated that the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Congo violates the U.N. charter and recent mutual commitments.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has threatened to send troops into Congo to disarm Ugandan rebels if Congo's army and U.N. peacekeepers failed to do so.
At least 300 Ugandan rebels from the Lord's Resistance Army crossed into Congo last month seeking political asylum.
The U.N. Security Council Tuesday expressed concern about the foreign armed groups that remain in the DRC, and welcomed a DRC plan to disarm Ugandan rebels.
