Lawyer: Vietnam Will Charge Ex-Rocker Glitter With Child Molestation

Gary Glitter's lawyer says Vietnam will charge the former British rock star with child molestation and drop a more serious charge of child rape.

The lawyer, Le Thanh Kinh, says prosecutors may be dropping the child rape charge, which carries a possible death penalty, because they lack evidence. Authorities have yet to make any announcement.

The 61-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, has been accused by two underage girls of having sex with them. He was arrested at Ho Chi Minh City airport on November 19 as he tried to leave Vietnam for Thailand.

Glitter is being held in detention in southern Vietnam's Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Vietnamese police have said Glitter has admitted that an 11-year-old girl spent the night at his house, but he denied having sex with her.
