US Authorities Announce Drug Smuggling Indictments

U.S. authorities say nine alleged members of an international drug trafficking ring have been arrested and indicted.

Officials from several U.S. agencies Thursday announced the 15-count indictment, in connection with a drug trafficking scheme that spanned from Venezuela and the Dominican Republic to the United States.

The nine alleged drug traffickers were arrested by U.S. agents on Wednesday.

A U.S. Immigration and and Customs Enforcement investigation revealed a conspiracy to smuggle cocaine from Venezuela and the Dominican Republic into Puerto Rico. The drugs were loaded into cargo containers bound for the island, and were to be distributed once they reached the Port of Puerto Rico.
