MLB: Sullivan Hits 2 Triples as Rockies Pound Padres

update

Colorado's Cory Sullivan became only the 11th player in Major League Baseball history to hit two triples in the same inning as his Rockies pounded the San Diego Padres 10-4.

Sullivan hit two triples in the seventh inning Sunday, becoming the first to accomplish the feat in 55 years.

In another National League contest, the Milwaukee Brewers lost for the first time in six games this season, falling 7-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Chicago's Michael Barrett hit the second grand slam home run of his career to lead the Cubs past their archrival St. Louis Cardinals 8-4, completing a three-game sweep.

Other National League winners were the Mets, Pirates, Giants and Astros, while the Phillies and Dodgers split a double-header.

The defending World Series champion Chicago White Sox snapped a four-game skid with a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Mark Buehrle pitched eight strong innings and Joe Crede drove in two runs to lead the visiting White Sox.

Other American League winners were the Red Sox, Yankees, Indians, Devil Rays, Rangers and Athletics.

The Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of Baltimore after beating the Orioles 4-1, the New York Yankees avoided being swept with a 10-1 rout of the Anaheim Angels, and the Cleveland Indians extended their winning streak to five games, beating the Minnesota Twins 3-2. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2, the Texas Rangers handed the Detroit Tigers their first loss of the season, 5-3, and the Oakland Athletics beat the Seattle Mariners 6-4.

The New York Mets slipped past the Florida Marlins 3-2 in an NL contest. Philadelphia and Los Angeles split a double-header with the Phillies winning the first game 6-3, and the Dodgers taking the nightcap, 6-2. The Pittsburgh Pirates got their first win of the season, downing the Cincinnati Reds 5-3. San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds is still looking for his first homer of the season, but his lackluster performance did not stop the Giants from topping the Atlanta Braves 6-5. Also, the Houston Astros overpowered the Washington Nationals 7-3.
