MLB: Braves Crush East Rival Mets

In major-league baseball, the Atlanta Braves trounced the New York Mets, 7-1, Tuesday in a matchup of National League East rivals.

Andruw Jones hit a pair of two-run homers for the Braves, who jumped all over Mets starting pitcher Victor Zambrano, with seven runs and seven hits in five innings. Atlanta pitcher Kyle Davies gave up just three hits and struck out six batters in his first career complete game.

The Houston Astros outlasted the Milwaukee Brewers for a 13-12 victory. Houston's Morgan Ensberg hit two home runs and teammate Adam Everett had four RBIs as the Astros took an 11-2 lead into the seventh inning, but the Brewers came back strong, stroking a trio of two-run homers, and made it a close finish.

In other National League games, the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-4. The Washington Nationals routed the Philadelphia Phillies, 10-3, for their third straight win after a 2-9 start to the season. The Arizona Diamondbacks downed the San Francisco Giants, 7-4, the Colorado Rockies held on for a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs, 2-1.

In the American League, the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 7-4. Boston's Manny Ramirez put his early-season hitting slump behind him with three RBIs.

The Toronto Blue Jays chased starting New York Yankees starter Randy Johnson in a 10-5 rout. New York's Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi homered back-to-back in the first inning for a short-lived 4-0 lead, but the Blue Jays got nine hits and seven runs from Johnson in just over three innings.

Elsewhere in the American League, the Cleveland Indians trounced the Baltimore Orioles, 15-1. The Chicago White Sox handed the Kansas City Royals their ninth straight loss, 4-1. The Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins, 8-2. The Oakland A's squeaked past the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, and the Texas Rangers downed the Seattle Mariners, 7-4.
