Vietnam's Top Government Leaders Submit Resignations

update

Vietnam's top three government officials have asked the national assembly to accept their resignations, in a long-expected reshuffle of Vietnam's leadership.

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, President Tran Duc Luong, and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An officially asked the legislature Saturday to allow them to step down a year before their terms end.

Legislators are expected to vote Saturday on whether to accept their resignations, and will decide later this month who will fill their positions.

Mr. Khai has already nominated Deputy Prime Minister Ngyuen Tan Dung for the prime minister's post.

The reshuffle in Vietnam's leadership has been expected since all three men were not re-elected to the Politburo earlier this year
