France Beats Spain, Advances to World Cup Quarterfinals

update

Five-time defending World Cup Champion Brazil and France are the final teams to reach the quarterfinal round in Germany.

Ronaldo scored early and Adriano and Ze Roberto added goals to give Brazil a 3-0 win over Ghana in Dortmund. Ronaldo's record-setting 15th career World Cup goal makes him the tournament's all-time leading scorer.

In Hanover, France beat Spain, 3-1, with a pair of scores late in the game.

David Villa scored from the penalty spot in the 27th minute to give Spain the lead before Franck Ribery netted a left-foot shot in the 41st minute. Patrick Vieira broke the deadlock with a French goal in the 83rd minute. French superstar Zinedine Zidane scored the third during injury time.

Brazil and France meet in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Frankfurt in a rematch of the 1998 final won by France.
