Israeli Commandos Raid Stronghold, Hezbollah Rockets Hit Israel

update

Hezbollah guerrillas Wednesday fired a record number of rockets into Israel, while Israeli commandos raided one of the militant group's strongholds deep inside Lebanon.

Israel's army says its forces seized five Hezbollah fighters and killed 10 others in the raid in the city of Baalbek near the Syrian border. Hezbollah says those captured are civilians. Lebanese officials say 15 civilians died in the raid.

Other Israeli air strikes hit an army post in the southern village of Sarba, killing three Lebanese soldiers. And thousands of Israeli ground troops are fighting in southern Lebanon.

Israeli officials say Hezbollah fired about 190 rockets into Israel. That is the highest one-day barrage since the conflict began three weeks ago. The attack killed one Israeli. Some of the rockets hit 70 kilometers inside Israel and stray rockets landed in the West Bank.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says Israel will keep fighting until international peacekeepers are deployed in Lebanon.

Israeli troops and Hezbollah are locked in fierce battles at several fronts along the border in southern Lebanon. Fighting there Tuesday killed three Israeli soldiers and wounded 25 others.

Israel says its three-week offensive has killed several hundred guerrillas, but Hezbollah denies its losses have been that great.
