8 Militants, 2 Soldiers Killed in Indian Kashmir

India's military says troops have shot dead eight militants who crossed into Indian-controlled Kashmir from Pakistani territory.

Indian officials say two soldiers were killed in separate gun battles with the militants.

In the first battle, Indian troops confronted a group of infiltrators in the Gurez sector of northern Kashmir late Saturday, triggering a fire fight that continued until Sunday morning.

In the other incident, Indian soldiers fired at a group of militants Sunday in Saujian region of Poonch district in the western part of Indian Kashmir.

Officials say Indian troops are searching for other militants that may have sneaked across the border (Line of Control).

India accuses Pakistan of training and arming militant groups fighting Indian rule in disputed Kashmir. Pakistan denies the charge.
