Mets Beat Cardinals to Tie Baseball's NLCS

update

The New York Mets have evened Major League Baseball's National League Championship Series at two wins apiece after beating the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-5.

The visiting Mets broke open a close game Sunday with six runs in the sixth inning, started by Carlos Delgado's two-run double with the bases loaded. An inning earlier, Delgado gave New York the lead with a three-run home run.

The Mets and Cardinals play game five in the best-of-seven series late Monday in St. Louis.

The winner of the game will have a chance to clinch the series Wednesday in New York, where a deciding seventh game might be needed Thursday.

The winner of the National League series will face the American League champion Detroit Tigers for the World Series title, beginning Saturday in Detroit.
