Adriano Bastos Captures 3rd Consecutive Walt Disney World Marathon


Brazilian long-distance runner Adriano Bastos has captured his third consecutive Walt Disney World Marathon at Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Bastos won by a nearly 13-minute margin Sunday. He ran 42 kilometers through the four Disney theme parks in 2:19:24. Bastos was followed by the 2004 marathon winner, Matthew Dobson of the United States (2:32:23), and Roy Vargas of Costa Rica (2:33:43).

Among the women, Gabriela Trana of Costa Rica was first across the finish line in her marathon debut. Trana's time of 2:57:04 was 22 seconds better than another first-time marathoner, Christa Benton of the United States. Brazilian Elizabete Cruz placed third (2:59:38).

About 11,500 runners took part in the event.
