England Defeats Ireland in Cricket World Cup Super 8s


England's cricket team has defeated Ireland by 48 runs in their World Cup Super 8s match at Providence cricket ground in Georgetown, Guyana.

England won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 266 for seven. Paul Collingwood led the English with 90 runs. Kevin Pietersen added 48 runs while Andrew Flintoff had 43 runs. Boyd Rankin of Ireland took two wickets for 28 runs for Ireland.

Ireland then took the crease and scored 218 all out in 48.1 overs. Niall O'Brien led the Irish with 63 runs. Andrew Flintoff took four Irish wickets while allowing 43 runs. Montey Panesar took two for 31.

England has two points in the Super Eights while Ireland has no points. The English play Sri Lanka in their next match April 4 at Viv Richards Stadium in St. Peter's Antigua. Ireland faces South Africa in its next match April 3 in Guyana.
