Explosions Kill 8 US Soldiers in Iraq Sunday

The U.S. military says explosions killed eight American soldiers in Iraq Sunday, including six who died along with a European journalist when their vehicle was blown up in Diyala province.

Separate blasts in Baghdad and another area north of the capital killed the two other U.S. soldiers.

In Baghdad, a car bomb killed more than 30 people and wounded 80 others at an outdoor market in Baiyaa, a Shi'ite neighborhood. Another car-bomb explosion in the capital killed at least four people near the Ministry of Labor.

In Samarra, a suicide car bomber and a gunman killed 12 Iraqi police during an attack on the city's police headquarters.

In addition, U.S. military officials say two Marines were killed Saturday and another American soldier was killed on Friday.

U.S. and Iraqi forces raided buildings in Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood, a bastion of Shi'ite militias. The troops found an explosives cache and torture room and killed at least eight gunmen.
