Algeria's three political parties allied with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika have retained their parliamentary majority in Thursday's elections.
Algeria's Interior Minister, Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni, announced the results in Algiers Friday.
He said the three parties together won 249 seats in the 389-member lower house of parliament, with the dominant National Liberation Front, FLN, winning the most seats - 136.
The other two parties in the coalition - the pro-business National Democracy Rally and the moderate Islamist Society of Peace Movement - won a total of 113 seats.
The interior minister said about 35 percent of nearly 19 million eligible voters cast ballots in the elections.
Algeria's main rebel group, the "al-Qaida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb," had urged voters to boycott the polls, calling them a farce.
Last month, the militant group claimed responsibility for suicide bombings that killed 33 people and wounded more than 200 others in the capital, Algiers.
These are the third parliamentary elections in Algeria since the military canceled the 1992 vote, sparking an Islamist insurgency in the North African country.
