German Soldiers Among 7 Killed in Afghan Suicide Bombing

update

Afghan officials say a suicide bomber has killed at least seven people, including three German soldiers, in the northern city of Kunduz.

Authorities say two other German soldiers are among 14 people wounded early today (Saturday) when the bomber blew himself up in the city center.

In a separate development, Afghan authorities said today (Saturday) U.S.-led coalition and Afghan troops battled Taleban militants late Friday in a fight lasting several hours in eastern Paktia province, near the Pakistan border.

There are conflicting reports on Taleban causalities.

One report (the Associated Press) quotes a provincial police chief as saying, "up to 60" Taleban fighters were killed, with the estimate based on the number of abandoned weapons.

Another report (by AFP) quotes an Afghan military commander as saying the bodies of 67 militants were found after the battle.
