Finnish Peacekeeper, Others Killed in Afghan Bombings

update

Separate bomb attacks in Afghanistan Wednesday killed three people and wounded several civilians and security personnel.

Afghan officials say a suicide bomber on a motorbike killed one policeman in the capital, Kabul. They say at least three other people, including civilians, were wounded. The Taleban has claimed responsibility.

Elsewhere, in the northwest, an explosion outside a NATO military base in Maymana in Faryab province killed a Finnish peacekeeper and an Afghan civilian. Norwegian military officials say four Norwegian soldiers were wounded.

In another development, NATO says its forces targeted a meeting of Taleban leaders in the southern province of Helmand on Tuesday. A statement said all of the dead were insurgents, but it did not say how many were killed.

Also Wednesday, officials in western Afghanistan said Taleban militants beheaded a man they accused of helping foreign military forces.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
