Justine Henin of Belgium Reaches Semifinals in French Open Tennis Tournament

World number one women's tennis player Justine Henin of Belgium remains in contention for a fourth French Open title. Henin eliminated American Serena Williams, 6-4, 6-3, Tuesday in Paris to reach the semifinal round.

The 25-year-old Belgian will next face Serbian Jelena Jankovic, whom she has beaten in all five of their previous meetings. The fourth-seeded Jankovic beat Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 7-5.

The other semifinal features Russian second seed Maria Sharapova and Serbian seventh seed Ana Ivanovic. Sharapova defeated ninth-seeded compatriot Anna Chakvetadze, 6-3, 6-4. Ivanovic upset 2006 runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.

Among the men, world number one Roger Federer of Switzerland reached the semifinals with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Spanish ninth seed Tommy Robredo. Federer is seeking his first French Open title. He next faces fourth-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko, who beat 19th-seeded Guillermo Canas of Argentina, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
