MLB: Yankees Crush Pirates

New York Yankees' slugger Alex Rodriguez hit two home runs Sunday in a 13-6 crushing of the Pittsburgh Pirates, in a Major League Baseball inter-league matchup.

Rodriguez drove in five runs while leading the host Yankees to their sixth straight win.

The other New York team, the Mets, suffered a 15-7 thrashing in Detroit, where the Tigers handed veteran pitcher Tom Glavine one of his worst defeats ever.

The Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians were scoreless until the 12th inning when Alex Gonzalez drove in the game-ending run for the Reds.

In another 12-inning contest, Milwaukee slugger Geoff Jenkins hit a three-run homer to give the visiting Brewers a 9-6 win over the Texas Rangers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Boston Red Sox, 5-1, giving Arizona pitcher Randy Johnson a win over Daisuke Matsuzaka. The Oakland Athletics got by the San Francisco Giants, 2-0. Seattle scored an unearned run off star San Diego relief pitcher Trevor Hoffman in the ninth inning to give the Mariners a 4-3 win over the Padres. The Chicago White Sox snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the Houston Astros. The Kansas City Royals vanquished the Philadelphia Phillies, 17-5.

The Toronto Blue Jays used two homers by Troy Glaus to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11-5. St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols also had two home runs in leading the Cardinals to a 9-6 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Florida Marlins, 9-4. The Colorado Rockies downed the Baltimore Orioles, 6-1, led by Ryan Spilborghs' two homers. The Minnesota Twins doubled the Washington Nationals, 6-3.

The Atlanta Braves scored three runs in the eighth inning to edge the visiting Chicago Cubs, 5-4, in a National League contest.
