Zimbabwean Journalists Most Prominent Among Media In Exile

update

The Committee to Protect Journalists said more more news professionals have gone into exile from Zimbabwe since 2001 than any other country. Zimbabweans who fled harassment or threats of violence numbered 48 out of 243 worldwide, CPJ said.

More than half of all exiled journalists worldwide came from Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Columbia and Uzbekistan, the New York-based organization said. The most popular destinations for journalists were Europe, the United States, Canada and Kenya.

Exiled Journalists Network Coordinator Forward Maisokwadzo, chairman of the United Kingdom-based Association of Zimbabwe Journalists, told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the exodus has nurtured offshore media.
