3 Soldiers, 7 Militants Killed in Southern Afghanistan


Afghan police say several violent incidents in the southern part of the country have killed three soldiers and seven Taleban militants.

In one incident Monday, police say a roadside bomb hit a military vehicle in the Gereshk district of Helmand province, killing three Afghan soldiers and wounding two others.

Police also say Afghan and NATO troops battled militants Monday in the Zehri district of Kandahar province. They say at least seven Taleban fighters were killed, while no casualties were reported among Afghan and NATO forces.

In other violence, the Afghan defense ministry says troops killed several militants, including a Pakistani, Monday in the eastern province of Paktika. The ministry says 10 Afghan soldiers were wounded in the battle in Bermel district near the border with Pakistan's lawless North Waziristan region.
