Suicide Bombing Kills 6 in Afghan Capital

Afghan officials say a suicide car bomber has attacked a U.S. military convoy in the capital, Kabul, killing one soldier and five Afghan civilians.

At least seven others were wounded in the explosion, which is being blamed on Taleban militants.

Saturday's bombing comes on the sixth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan.

It was the third major attack in Kabul in the past week. Last Saturday, at least 30 people were killed in a suicide attack on an army bus. A similar blast on a police bus Tuesday left at least 13 people dead.

Elsewhere in Afghanistan, two children were killed Friday after a suicide bomber detonated explosives near a military compound in southern Helmand province.

Also, the U.S. military reported that several civilians were killed during a battle between Taleban insurgents and Afghan troops backed by U.S.-led coalition forces in the southeast.

The U.S. military says that several Taleban fighters also died in the fighting.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
