Baseball Playoffs: Red Sox Advance, Yankees Stay Alive

The Boston Red Sox are going to Major League Baseball's American League Championship series, while the New York Yankees have kept their season alive.

The Red Sox beat the host Los Angeles Angels Sunday, 9-1, to take the best-of-five playoff series in three straight games.

The Red Sox secured the win with a seven-run eighth inning. Veteran Boston ace Curt Schilling pitched seven strong innings to get credited with the win.

Later, the Yankees beat the visiting Cleveland Indians, 8-4. New York still trails in the series two games to one. The two teams meet again Monday in New York.

The Yankees and pitcher Roger Clemens trailed 3-0 in the third inning Sunday, but finally claimed the lead in the fifth when Johnny Damon hit a three-run home run.

The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks have both won their series, and will face off for the National League championship beginning Thursday - the first game in a best-of-seven series.
