British Tribunal Clears Way To Deport Failed Zimbabwean Asylum-Seekers

A British tribunal has ruled that not all asylum seekers from Zimbabwe would risk life or limb if they were deported back to their country, paving the way for the government to resume such deportations, according to the Refugee Legal Center in London and other organizations which advocate on behalf of asylum seekers.

Sources at the Refugee Legal Center said failed Zimbabwean asylum seekers are now at risk of deportation, though it was not possible immediately to reach officials at the Home Office to find out when and if deportations would immediately resume.

Chairman Nick Ndebele of Focus Trust, an Oxford-based refugee advocacy group, told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the ruling is devastating and shows a lack of understanding of conditions in Zimbabwe.
