Egyptian Police Jail Four Officers in Torture Case

update

An Egyptian court has jailed four policemen for up to seven years in prison for torturing a detainee to death in the second conviction involving police in a month.

A court in the Nile Delta town of Mansurah sentenced three men to seven years and a fourth to three years for killing Nasr Abdullah in July.

Three weeks ago two other police officers were sentenced to three years in prison for sodomizing a man after his arrest.

That case sparked an international uproar after cell phone video of the officers sexually abusing the victim appeared on the Internet.

Human Rights groups say Egyptian security forces use torture routinely and without consequence, a charge the Egyptian government denies.
