Germans Secure Finals Berth at Champions Trophy

Germany's men's field hockey team has beaten host Malaysia, 3-2, to ensure itself of a berth in the finals of the Champions Trophy tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

Florian Keller scored two penalty corner goals to lead the Germans to the win. Germany now has 16 points from seven matches and will play in the final even if it loses its last match against Australia Saturday. Only the top two teams after round-robin play advance to the final.

South Korea is second in the standings with 11 points after playing Pakistan to a 3-3 draw Thursday. Olympic champions Australia have 10 points after a 3-3 draw with the Netherlands. The Dutch, the defending tournament champions, have nine points.

To qualify for the final, the Australians need to beat the Germans and hope that South Korea loses or draws with Britain. The British have only two wins and four losses for six points. The Netherlands must beat Pakistan, and hope Australia and South Korea lose their matches.
