Zimbabwe Rural Violence Blocks Humanitarian Access, Diverts Resources


Humanitarian organizations in Zimbabwe have been obliged to scale back operations due to the political violence is continuing to destabilize many rural areas.

Web news source ZimOnline said organizations including the Ecumenical Zimbabwe Network and Cooperation for International Development, umbrellas for some 35 other groups, have been unable to carry out food assessments in certain areas due to violence and what they describe as an intimidating presence of security forces.

Spokesman Fambai Ngirande of the National Association of Non-Governmental Organizations told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the resources of NGOs have been diverted to helping victims of the political violence.
