Wimbledon Tennis Champion Nadal Pulls Out of Mercedes Cup

update

One day after winning the Wimbledon tennis championships for the first time, Spain's Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the Mercedes Cup tournament in Stuttgart, Germany with unspecified knee problems.

The world number-two Nadal unseated five-time defending Wimbledon champion Roger Federer of Switzerland Sunday in a five-set marathon at the All England Club.

But Nadal, the defending champion at the Stuttgart event, traveled to Germany to personally tell organizers at the clay-court event of his withdrawal.

The Spaniard was told by doctors to take a few days off, and he said he was disappointed that he could not play at the tournament.

Nadal added the Wimbledon crown to his four French Open titles, and also became the first Spaniard to win the grass-court Grand Slam since 1966.
