Israel's domestic intelligence agency says terrorists are using popular social networking Web sites such as Facebook to try to recruit Israelis.
The Shin Bet security service said in a statement it has received many reports of terror groups contacting Israelis over the Internet to set up meetings. It says militants may use such meetings to kidnap Israelis.
The security agency says a man claiming to be a Lebanese merchant recently contacted an Israeli on Facebook and offered to pay for classified information.
The Shin Bet urged Israelis to be wary of unsolicited Internet messages and avoid revealing their phone numbers and other personal information.
Last year, Israeli authorities said al-Qaida recruited two Israeli Arab men over the Internet to help plan attacks in the country. Both men were arrested.
