At Least 4 Dead in China Landslide

Chinese authorities said at least four people are dead after heavy rain triggered a landslide in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that Thursday's disaster left four people injured and 50 others missing.

Xinhua said about 600 rescuers are searching for the missing, most of whom are migrant workers who were rebuilding a part of the national highway in the area.

The agency said residents stranded by a 3,000 meter-long lake formed by the mudslide have been transferred to a safe place. People living downstream also were evacuated.

Xinhua said the landslide was triggered by a rainstorm that hit around 1 a.m. local time Thursday.
