Pentagon Firefighters Remember - 2001-10-03

On the day after American Airlines Flight 77 was hijacked and deliberately crashed into the Pentagon just outside Washington, rescue workers and military personnel climbed onto the roof and unfurled a huge American flag.

It was a scene replayed time and time again on television and for many, became a poignant reminder of a strong and proud America determined to stand tall following the deadliest attack ever on its soil.

VOA-TV's Larry Clamage recently spoke to three of the rescue workers on the roof that day. They talked about their fallen colleagues in New York, what it was like to be at the Pentagon, and, for one of the men, what it meant to unfurl a flag in honor of his brother who never came home on September 11 from his job at the World Trade Center.
