England's football players have voted to go on strike, if a dispute is not settled over sharing television revenues with the country's Premier League.
The chief executive of England's Professional Footballers' Association, Gordon Taylor, announced Friday that the strike has been approved by 2,290 players, with only 22 voting against it. "As you can imagine," he said, "we're extremely pleased, to say the least, at such unprecedented support from our members to pursue industrial action, in order to secure a fair share of television income."
A strike would affect only televised games, and would not begin until November 23, at the earliest.
Mr. Taylor said the union is still open to negotiations, and the league is proposing new talks on Monday.
The players have been seeking $35 million of the league's television income, while league officials have offered around $15 million a year.
