By most accounts, mental illness is a harrowing experience. But until recently, social stigma, ineffective or dangerous medication, and the lack of opportunity for the mentally ill to give and receive mutual support made it even worse. But that may be changing at least for some. Adam Phillips has more in this Dateline report from New York.
