Germans Sweep Wins in Bobsledding, Luge - 2002-01-13

Christoph Langen guided Germany to victory in a World Cup two-man bobsledding event Saturday. Langen edged Switzerland's Christian Reich and World Cup leader Todd Hays of the United States, in Saint Moritz, Switzerland.

Langen, with brakeman Marco Jakobs, posted the fastest time in both runs to finish in a two-run combined time of two minutes, 7.68 seconds, just 18-one-hundredths of a second ahead of Reich and teammate Steve Anderhub.

Meanwhile, Germany's Sylke Otto has easily defended her women's singles title at the European luge championships. Otto trounced the competition by 0.759 seconds Saturday in Altenberg, Germany. She led a German sweep of the top four places.

The dominant German men's doubles team captured their title in a heavy snowfall. Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch finished two runs in one minute, 25.338 seconds.
