Zuelle Wins Tour of Valencia Cycling Race - 2002-03-02

Swiss cyclist Alex Zuelle has won the Tour of Valencia cycling race by taking the final stage, a 23.5 kilometer time trial in the southeastern Spanish town.

Zuelle completed the stage in 28 minutes, 34 seconds - 20 seconds faster than Germany's Jorg Jaksche. Ivan Basso of Italy was third, 29 seconds behind the Swiss rider.

Zuelle finished the five-stage event with a total time of 17 hours, seven minutes, 46 seconds. Basso was second, nine seconds back with Claus Moller of Denmark third, 48 seconds off the pace.

Peter Van Petegem Win Omloop Het Volk Cycling Race

Belgian cyclist Peter Van Petegem has won the Omloop Het Volk cycling race in Belgium by sprinting past Denmark's Frank Hoj in the final seconds.

The 32-year-old Belgian covered the 200-kilometer course between Ghent and Lokeren in less than four hours, 56 minutes. Hoj was second with Belgium's Michel Van Haecke third, 17 seconds behind the winner.

Van Petegem joins countrymen Joseph Bruyere and Erest Sterckx as the only men to win the national cycling classic three times. Van Petegem also won the race in 1997 and 1998.
